Ford Truck

Ford produced heavy trucks many years ago; now Ford is not producing this type of trucks anymore, but is still manufacturing light and medium trucks. In Brazil Ford produces the Ford cargo, a high class heavy truck. The most popular Ford small truck is Ford F-150, the 30 years best selling truck.

The first generation known as Ford Bonus was produced from 1949 to 1952. The modern and stylish pick up has integrated headlights. The F-series was produced in three models: F1 (half ton), F2 (three quarter ton) and F3 (heavy duty). The second generation was produced from 1953 to 1956. The trucks look becomes more integrated and the names are more familiar f-100, F-250 and F-350 heavy duty. A new dome light, arm rests, a lighter, sun visors are the main interior attractions.

The third generation made from 1957 to 1960 had a chrome grille, a smooth sided look and four wheel drives. The fourth generation produced from 1961 to 1966 is represented by trucks completely redesigned; the look is wider. Unique body trucks were designed with an integrated cab and box. Power was over 200hp; the Twin I-Beam front suspension was introduced with coil springs. A four door crew cab version was released in 1965 and it is still very popular.

The fifth generation was made from 1967 to 1972; the Ranger line becomes very popular with the introduction of the 360 and 390 cubic inch engines. The top Ford truck for 1970’ was the Ranger XLT and Ranger, Sport Custom and Custom versions. The fifth generation was produced in Brazil. The sixth generation (1973 to 1979) was designed in 1973 with automatic transmission option. The super cab version was introduced too; the Ford F-150 was produced in 1973. The spilt grill design is very successful and it was face lifted in 1976, to feature new black accents. A luxury Lariat trim was introduced for the F series since 1978. In the same year, the F-series became the champion of America best selling trucks. The F-series keep this position until the present days. The additional chrome plated F-O-R-D letter set can be seen above the grille the now.

The seventh generation was made from 1980 to 1986; the new trucks had a new look, more squared. The lines are sharper and the panels are flat. The new Ford Ranger pick up is designed in XL, XLT and Lariat versions. The F-159 took the F-100 place as base model. The eight generation made from 1987 to 1991 is revolutionary and fresh. The maintenance is simpler and the flare side box was dropped. Four wheel drive models become standard in 1991. The Ford 5.0 L truck has a “touch drive” electronic transfer case. The ninth generation made from 1992 to 1997 received an aerodynamic looking front end, new dashboard and the flare side back until 1996. Jackie steward, world champion driver, improved the performance handling.

The eleventh generation is redesigned using the P2 platform. For 2007, Ford offers a version to the existing 4 WD FX4 model, the new FX2 Sport package.
